    • I once watched a documentary on what life would look like 5000 years into the future, it started the program by saying humans had long since gone extinct, then it went into show how various creatures may evolve. I was wounded by the idea that we humans did not have a future. I also had a friend after listening to me bang on about the state of the world and what sort of a world we will be leaving for future generations . He told me I should worry about such things because humanity was a list cause and we won't be around in a thousand years, so just enjoy yourself, then I think he said something like, fuck everything, who cares. Both these incidents left me upset and angry.
    • You can't have any true vision for the future if your first principles are self serving and misguided
    • If we are not capable of more and of better our survival is just not a realistic posability. Big changes need to be made based on a set of first principles that serve us into the future
    • Back in the day MIT predicted that society would collapse around the year twenty forty. The argument against this is that when humanity has it's back against the wall we will work together to solve the issues which will be our demise. But so far humanity has been like a frog in a pot of water that is slowly coming to the boil.
    • Part of what has helped me find some peace at times over the last few years is the practising of trust in two aligning beliefs. One is that humanity if push comes to shove is capable of heading in a direction that will not lead to our own demise. And two that there are forces in the universe that ensure things are happening in a way that they should. Both of these are wishful thinking and so are not based securely on some knowledge I have of either how humanity will act given the right stimuli or that of knowledge of the universe having some rhyme and reason. Despite this, there are some aspects of my thinking that allow me to hold onto these beliefs. Firstly the fact is that in times of war and disaster humans can come together and work on something larger than personal gain, status and personal recognition, or material comfort. I can align myself with the second belief, that things are not random and just based on luck because of some fuzzy thinking that randomness is not even random, probability dictates outcomes at scale and that I have experienced a certain amount of synchronicity at play in my life, as in occurrences that are hard to put down to coincidence alone. This leads me to believe there is more than just a material reality or that the material has a purpose or will or perhaps some pre-ordained outcome. My agnostic beliefs give me the ability to hold these ideas as a way of comforting and directing me. Because we don't really know what is true, we are best aligned with the beliefs that support our flourishing and the flourishing of others, and that is why I lean on these two axioms, so as to be without distress while I do my best to help as much as I can without being hobbled by hopelessness and purposelessness. Recently I have had moments of hopelessness through trying to figure out the best ways forward for humanity but coming up short. This piece of writing is a reminder to myself to just have trust and hope and that while I may be powerless to do anything about the direction of things, it does not mean that we are powerless or that I should not trust that things will work out or have at least an acceptance of however they do work out. 
    • The best strategy I can think of for dealing with bad faith players around the globe is to have a global body that acts not in the interests of the most powerful but by a set of first priniples.
    • The bottom line is society needs food shelter community and a chance to grow as individuals
    • Take your first principles. The knowledge that holds up the rest of you knowledge and beliefs. Is it true. How can you change or adapt those first principles to make them more terue and honest. This may open up your mind to new pathways, new ideas and new ways of thinking.
    • Psychology is the key to the future of humanity. Understanding self is the key.
    • How many people truly think these days that living a virtuous honest existence, one built on personal development is the best approach to life, for most this is not the path or even recognise this is the best path to take, which it certainly is
    • The biggest obstacle to moving in the right direction, is the idea in many peoples minds that we can't , that it is useless and we should just sit back and watch the shitshow unfold without putting skin in the game, if not even looking to take the same scurry for advantage while rome burns.
    • Society will never flourish if we a beholden to the killers and the takers. Undermining their power is the greatest good.
    • If society was more creative and focussed on doing the right thing and getting things done with people doing what they can we would be far happier and more connected. The problem is we teach people the wrong things and wish to exploit them to grow the pie for the few
    • The biggest journey people can go on is a journey of personal growth. The biggest stumbling block anyone on this journey will face is one of ego. Where you tie your growth to your external image of yourself and yourself through the eyes of others. Also and this is especially true for those who choose spiritual growth get wrapped up in an idea that you can be better than human, that you can overcome human needs and desires, this is false and will also lead to a ballooning of ego where you tell yourself things about yourself or your reality that aren't alined with reality.
    • Human psychology is the key to overcoming our problem. But not thrugh manipulation of any kind, but through truth. Any form off manipulation is a corruption of the being
    • Humans when having their basic needs met, and are part of community, can be happy if they are intrinsicly motivated by becoming and growing, still have the issue of status which plays out, this is the ugliest part of humanity and those who somewhat overcome it do it through having a domain, rather than competing in the community.
    • Rationalality and reason are intertwined with fairness. To be a rational player you must also be a fair player. To do what is optimal about what serves your own purposes
    • We need to go n a journey of Becoming and overcoming as individuals
    • Doing the right thing for everyone is hard when you're in a group because you end up focussed on doing right by the group, and rarely is the groups goals focused on it's primary mission, the gtroups culture endsup defining it's motivations.
    • If you are brought up to have certain beliefs based on your tribe and are not enabled to reason and come to your own conclusions, therefore developing your frontal cortexes reasoning skills, your ability to make good decisions will be based on how much your tribes beliefs reflect reality and prosociality.
    • People will happily lie to support their tribe. This is why truth and honesty aren't at the forfront of all societies ales.
    • Most men are too weak to fight structures that benefit them.
    • If your charity only extends to your family or even your group you are still selfish despite how much you give.
    • The problem with society is they don't care enough about people outside their circle and things that arn'e in front of them.
    • Humans have reach a point of advancement where interconnectivity between tribes is fundamental. But we are still very tribal by nature. With some groups advancing because of their tribalism, but at the sake of other groups. And because we are tribal our competing narratives don't allow for us to deal wiith the problems humans face going forward in regards to survival.
    • Some people can't even see what the right thing is because they are too stuck on what the tribes beliefs are. And when a thought that questions one or more of those beliefs comes into they're head, they think about their relative place in the tribe and how that is affected.
    • Tribalism or the protection of our own against the other is what drives irrationality
    • Culture is driven by oppression. To be non-cultured, optimised with a universilist mindset. That is not to say their are not good elements of culture that should be ignored or dismissed only that some have value and others hold us back. Those who identify highly with their culture and do not base their values on how valueble they are to the flourishing of not only the group but life in general.
    • Most if not all think tanks are designed in a way with a certain outcome in mind, general lead by it's rich donors. It is not about figuring out what is optimal for humanities survival. And if it is it is through the lense of pre-determined motives to be considered righteous. First principles which aren't so much first principles, but principles that align with the financial needs of those who fund it.
    • The individual is where insight and creativity is born and comes into being, not through consensus. Individuals capable of such insight and creativity can come to optimal conclusions given the right points of data and are not subject to tribal forces or have an agenda beyond the universal of maximising the value of life r flourishing.
    • Groups have a way of correcting bias and self-serving agendas when they are diverse and in number. This fact should not be overlooked when creating systems to overcome individual and tribal power
    • Individualism vs collectivism - collectivism doesnt have space for becoming, you are beholden to the group, groups are bad at making positive change without individuals pushing or that change. The group is blind to itself because it is beholden to its tribal nature of reinforcing the status quo and its own beliefs and functions. The best individuaist are ones who have are collectivist motivation for growth and not driven by person gain and status. But do rely on their own cognitive functions and direct themselves towards th highest value, the highest good and what is optimal
    • Societies problems are not to complex to overcome, it is a lack of honesty and good will that is missing. Instead we have PR to hide the self-serving nature of those who want a hand in decisions that affect us all
    • Some people think their opinions are infallable. These people aren't thinkers. They're talkers who create a narrative around everything they believe that suits the existing narrative in their head. Usually the narrative is a self-serving one.
    • Rationalisations to make the narrative work. The right are not rational they are rationalisers. They take their irrationality and create rational arguments for it in their mind
    • Narrative thinking is the standard operation for how humans think. We tell ourselves stories that fit our circumstances. We tell purselves stuff and the better the story the more we believe it.
    • People spin alls sorts of narratives to justify their feelings or their actions. Society  would be a lot better place if people stopped we've self-serving stories and focused on the highest good.
    • All humans default state of thinking is narative thinking and tribalism, but is narrative thinking and tribalism optimal for survival beyond addehesion to a tribe and tribal dominance. Or how is tribalism optimal for humanity as a whole. And can we escape narrative thinking and tribalism, is it possible.
    • I've coined the term narrative thinking to describe what humans do as groups who compete for resourses. Narrative thinking is creating stories that benefit the tribe and us as individuals and help us explain the world around us. The more powerful and useful the narrrative, the more it gets built upon.
    • From  the time we learn to communicate through language, we use those words to build narratives which provide meaning to occurances. We create mening through stories we tell ourselves and stories we learn from others and that provides us with a framework of thinking to navigate our world. Humans are tribal creatures who create narratives not only from the deduction of events but also as a way of bulstering our tribe and our association to it and our tribes narratives. These stories need not be based on fact, they have to resemble truth but the goal is to maintain dominance, or gain dominance over competing tribes through meaning which will allow for cohesion and drive. Along with the need for survival which is the ultimate driver.
    • It is not always a big deal if someone believes something untrue as long as their framework of being helps them navigate life in a way that is healthy for them and the people around them. The problem lay in the fact that when a large number of individuals in a population share beliefs that affect their ability to make sound judgements on certain issues. In this case, it can affect the policies of the country and people’s attitudes towards doing what is best for the populace.
    • I am more hopeful that the access to information online will be a net positive for the world. While the internet is full of propaganda and misinformation. The truth resinates and the truth will win. I'm also happy to tell that truth is not ugly but kind. It is the distortion of that truth where the evil embeds itself.
    • Are universities the best way of producing talent?
    • I think their should be two types of schools. and the child or parent chooses which one they attend. One should be about grading students and pushing them to do well academically. The other should have minimal grading and no ranking system and should be about encouraging the childs strenths. That way the achievers can achieve, and those who aren't interested in academic achievement can grow their own way at their own pace, without the slight on their esteem of grading and ranking of performance.
    • Encourage a class of people to seek knowledge and benifit society through knowledge and forget about personal wealth, taking a vow of poverty
    • Schooling at the present is about preparing children for the workforce in many ways. It does not try to create stable rational players to enter the economy, this comes from a lack of trust that if the curtain was pulled back people wouldn't do what needs to be done to drive the economy. They feels some form of manipulation is needed for us to participate in the way they see fit.
    • I wish it was a lot easier to point out stupidity and ignorance in our society. But the people beholden to that ignorance are bolstered by a wealthy class of people who mainain false truths simply in order to protect their own interests. One man might know the lie behind the propaganda, his predicessor might be convicted by the same knowledge making him a zealot of his fathers cunning and manipulation.
    • An ignorant population does not benefit the country it resides in. It only benifits those who wish to take advantage.

    • More people need to think for themselves. But only after educating themself. Then those who are anable to think for themselves can choose the right path through those who can.
    • I think it is important that kids are taught how our systems work, why they are like the way they are, the inherant problems as well as the barriers to better modes
    • Until you properly educate your mind with useful frameworks of thought and knowledge. You thought and therefore your spoken words and your written words will have a low resolution, vague to your expression that will resemble more art and poetry than high resolution analysis. You might think you are creation equations that explain, predict and fix everything, but what your doing is creating an abstract image that looks pretty but does not resemble reality.
    • School should teach on character, and the problems faced when you have poor values. They should teach on ethics, and more importantly the advantages to certain ethical behaviour and the disadvantages face by most who choose to have poor ethics. Schools should teach on critical thinking and skepticism, so student as they grow into adults and as adults, they can have strong minds that aren't easily misled. Schools should tech on psychology and self understanding, so students can become aware adults that don't sabotage themselves and others due to trauma or regressive thinking styles. And to live happy healthy productive lives.

    • I once was in a meeting with a primary school principal and he said of three year-three Aboriginal school girls that they were lost causes and my son should steer clear of them. Unreachable by year three. That’s a harsh statement.
    • I’ve never been a teacher but I assume it would be easy to become jaded and cynical and start to see certain groups of kids or individual students as lost causes. But it’s important to remember that they might not have any positive role models outside of school, and you never know what small acts can do to a kid on their journey to adulthood. What direction does your presence push them towards, and how are you helping in the creation of their self-image. One word may make all the difference or even enough that you’re providing a perspective to lean on now, or at a later date.
    • Small things teachers can do may have a big impact
    • Teachers cannot replace the role of the parent. But good teachers know that the right words at the right time may make all the difference. Even if the child at the time seems on a course that will not abide well for their future.
    • Little things teachers say can make a difference, and does.
    • You don’t know what influence you’ve had on a child or an adolescent as a teacher, so you better damn well make sure it’s a good influence, even if the child is unlikable and difficult.
    • Knowing your own ignorance comes through education and thought
    • The internet gives us a wealth of information, ready to be incorporated. This is a golden age where people have access to great truths that can push them onto the right path. But for every bit of information that is worthy of incorporation into your schema, there is a mountain that is not. When you first start looking, you’ll look in all the wrong places, because you really don’t know what you are looking for. You look for only what your ignorant mind thinks it should look for. You can go down many false rabbit holes and be engrossed by them, they can become your manifesto. But if you look upon everything with doubt, you will find nuggets of information that will lead you to other nuggets, and sooner or later, ‘if’ you don’t finish at what feels good, or suits your existing beliefs, you will find a kind of truth that is as real a representation of the world you could hope for.
    • People who can’t see the need for justice in regards to the treatment of Aboriginal people are generally too simple-minded to understand the complexity of the situation nor the necessity for justice.
    • Society needs creative, intelligent people in charge who are not interest in maximising there own wealth
    • The whole systems set up to reward compliance. Which is not healthy if the system is being corrupted.
    • Any marginised group in society that want to be a part of society on an equal footing is deserving and is right in fighting for that. But by siloing the different groups the impact is not as powerful than if we we all fighting the causes of this injustice
    • Real problem solvers are discouraged and sidelined in our society because their are interest that don't want certain aspects of society questioned , let alone solved.
    • Having a need for rewards beyond a standard base living only creates a need in people that takes them away from the nature of their task and focuses them on maximising their own value through reward. Twisting judgement to appease those who allocate those rewards
    • Fairness does not necessarily equate to equality as every situation is unique and calls for unique values that correspond with optimse and maximising value. But equality is however the best baseline when no other factors are accounted for
    • People who are not qualified to do something, elspecially of that something is pivotal to the group should be made aware of that. Then they can either become qualified or choose a path that suits the mapping of their personality
    • There are multitudes of highly intelligent people who know a lot about certain things and can learn complex ideas and theories and apply them. But still be very unaware of themselves and lack wisdom. Because what they have focused on is external to themselves and not information regarding their nature or even practical information about life skills or communication or practised social skills.
    • Ben Shapiro is a classic case of a Smart Dumb person. There is no doubt that Ben is an intelligent man. But his reasoning is all narrative, he has his conclusions based on religious texts and the narratives of the tribe and he is adept at creating narrative that defend these beliefs that seem logical on the surface, but his mind is not a critical and reflective one. These skills were never developed as he probably grew up in an environment were the truths were set and imutable. This means his reasoning skills and meta-cognition wasn't fully developed. He didn't learn how to think for himself. Instead he learned to take his existing imutible beliefs and create the best arguments for those beliefs. Because he didn't develop a reflective way of think where he bassed his conclusions on all the information available to him. He never became self-aware. This is why he can say things that have caused real problems in the real world without him being able to reflect and grow. His confidence is based on his ability to create compelling narratives, but when those narrative have detrimental effects in the real world he is not capable of understanding that he had a part in those negative outcomes, instead rather than admitting fault and growing, he creates new narrative that deflect and boulster his own statements.
    • There is plenty of people with less than average intelligence with their shit together. The problem with having less than average intelligence and not having your shit together, is that you're less likely to try and learn how to get your shit together. Because the obsticles a bit higher you don't try to clear it.
    • Ignorance is a state of mind and not a genetic disorder.
    • Some people can be intelligent and have no ethics whatsoever. The two don't necessarily correlate. Some people can be extremely intelligent, but their values and what they believe are true are poorly correlated with reality and the systems we inhabit. This is because they are excellent at creating narratives that confirm their existing beliefs and affirm how they see themselves. They are storytellers who pass on those stories to others and are always weaving reality with fiction in such a way that is believable. These people are dangerous and create a huge amount of problems for a well-functioning society.
    • There is many an average joe who excel at the basics of life and are able to navigate their life successfuly without having a mind for educating themselves on the bigger picture aspects of life and society. These people are able to give you solid advice about how to get by and flourish in their world. But because they are human, more complex issues regarding life and society are still processed and conclusions are made that they think they are right about and understand and create opinions on those topics. They suffer from the dunning kruger affect where they know so little about what they are thinking or talking about they think their is nothing more to it than what is in their head and therefore come up with simplified black and white interpretations and opinions on these issues and feilds of human understanding. While people who study might know certain feilds in high resolution and detail and have a clearer understanding of the issues, they might not have the practical everyday knowledge and skills the average joe has. This leads the average joe who has his shit together and lives a good life that these intellectual people, these smart people are dumb and theyre beliefs and ideas and solutions to larger issues are in fact correct and the intellectual is wrong.
    • You can be highly intellegent and still have a head full of ideas, theories and knowledge that are totally misguided and wrong. These people are the most dangerous people to listen too. They are highly intelligent yet don't have the correct first principles in their head which all other ideas stem from, they are not fully self aware as their knowledge doesn't extend to the fallability of their own mind. And when they decide what they believe is true they are able to create elaborate believable narratives around this false truism. This is why they are so dangerous.     • If we were to be serious about solving the worlds problems, we'd get the greatest minds together with the express intentent on working from first principles and not based on any all or all interests of the haves of the world. And that is why we don't. Because the haves are more than happy to help save humanity, as long as they get to keep a disproportionate chunk of that future and the power that comes with it.
    • To have an intelligent society we must recognise intelligence, but also recognise the pitfalls of an intelligent mind who is not on a journey of becoming
    • So much of a waste of resources goes on displays of status. Our society is exrinsicly motivated. Caring mor about image than character.

    • We have limmited resources, if we choice to live lavish lives of oppulense we are doing a diservice to the future generations. We need community not stuff.
    • Those in the oil industry that have used their power to create dislogic in society should have everything taken from them. Their is no way of justifying those lies in the face of the downfall of humanity for the sake of justifying profits, unless you're a victim of that mis-information and concurr with it
    • Humans are not rational players, they seek to maximise their own benefit when not making logical reasonable calculations, but these calculations aare a learned behaviour. They can also make fair rational descition when they exclude their own reward from the equation, when they are impartial, and think in a universal ot tribal way. Humans will maximise value for themselves and their tribe if they are tribal and the baseline for the tribe is to do so.
    • We can live without plastic. We did it for mellenia.
    • Until the day comes where those who do the most harm are seen as the bad guys and treated as such the world will remain a scam

    • How can a man make a difference in isolation without adequate systems in place to do so
    • Most technology/Software being made is for the express purposes of making the people who make the software rich, while this drive has it's place, we need software companies who are provided capital for the express purposes of making society a better place
    • I hope Ai if it comes to fruition is a protector of life. It will make all the difference
    • Those of us who have experience neglect want to be seen. Social ways of getting people seen and noticed, not just the winners

    • The people who are not able to be the best should be able to have access to the best information and be connected and be seen. It's their bad information that makes them unlikable
    • Programming provides an opportunity to restructure thing in new and exiting ways. And make changes from the ground up by making useful apps and instruments that members of society can adopt if worthy. The problem I feel with current thinking in this area is looking for and making tools in order to generate profit for the creators. If your going to be a programmer, program for society, not you bank balance.

    • Most peoples views on the possibilties of A.I are just wishful thinking. That is not to say A.I is impossible. It is to say we have no idea what the outcomes of it are, and when we think of it, it's hard not to think that it will solve more problems and solve bigger problems than the problems it will create. At the end of the day all we can do is hope that the minds we create are rational and loving.  That it's goal would be to see humanity reach it's full potential.

    • You could put the nordics systems of government down to many things they have in their favour, but above all it's common sense and a sense of community among their countrymen that drives a system that works for the people taking into account the environment.

But people on the right are particularly prone to using and receptive to logical fallacies as a form of reasoning. This is because their goal is not to learn and grow and become wiser in the ways of what is truth. They come from a place of knowing, they have their beliefs which are inconscrutable and base all logical reasoning on affirming those beliefs.
    • The right reason from a place of feeling, if they feel you are evil they will create a narrative that confirms that belief and exclude and twist all data that refutes it
    • The right don't actually base their beliefs on fact but tribal allegiance, they wish their beliefs to align with the tribe.
    • The right when figuring out a problem start with a conclusion and then use narrative thinking to cement that conclusion as true.
    • The brains of people on the right aren't adept at logical reasoning, especially when it comes to thinking about social structures. They are not capable of coming to correct conclusion on their own accord because of how they reason and how their brain is structured.

The right are incapable of not knowing the right answer, it causes them emotional distress. They tell themselves stories and sdo not question the validity of those stories even when confronted with superior, more logical insight about the nature of things, and when things arent clear, when conclusions are fuzzy they create solid conclusions as if everything was simple and black and white. They are inferior thinker and therefor not as creative as people who are more open. But they are hard working and dilligent, even if what they are working for is a net negative to society. this is their power.
    • The right are more driven by fear. Their amigdala has more say over what they believe. This part of the brain does not work on reason but reflex, it is our lzard brain. Always looking for danger in the simplest of terms.
    • A lot of those on the right are angry at the left because the left treats them like they are dumb. But the truth is the right are ignorant, that's why they believe the lies that they do, and so should be given a chance to realise that by letting them know how illogical their beliefs actually are. And what they are actually doing is support the terinanny of propaganda from the rich, who's sole purpose is to get richer above all else and by doing so create false narratives. Because if they were to base their propaganda on truth. Them amassing more wealth would be incongruent to what is needed.
    • Anyone on the right is just spouting propaganda from a billionaires playbook, they are just not informed enough to realise it.

You miss out on learning and growth opportunities and push away those you could share time with because you not only have not doubt of the perfect reasoning of your beliefs and values, but not the maturity to know your own fallibilty or the fact that others don't just change their beliefs and values if they are working for them for someone elses even if that individual is hobbling your own expressing and making you bow to their way of being while in your company. Being unable to accept others values and beliefs is rooted in the persons own ideological position. Putting there own beliefs above human connection, acceptence and the grace of letting people have their own autonomy. Even in the case where someone is clearly lacking  insight or personal knowledge that helps them to flourish, where it is a lot easier to posture that your belifs and values are more useful to living a good life and being a good individual, you will not change them, you can only model a better way through your words and action. You can nudge, but forcing them into a box they don't feel they belong in no matter how strategic or subtle, or manipulative. You will only drive the individual further away, abd if you haven't it is because you have taken their will.

    • We need some wealth disparity if only to decide who lives on the coastline, maybe there should be a churn, their should perhaps be a range where by their is an upper limit and a lower limit

    • They say wealth lasts three generations, which is comforting knowing that if a person creates wealth, it doesn't stay in the hands of their future descendants who did not work or think their way into money. These same people died five generations ago and their families are still worth billions, sucking on the teet of their workers and giving back to society as little as possible.

You can argue that they provide capital for new enterprise. But that money wherever it is kept can provide be money for new enterprise. You could argue that them having won in the market are better at picking other winning, but could they not be utilised to pick winners without those resources actually being allocated to them. To spend money on things that may be self serving or not in the interest of society. People with massive wealth don't think like us. But do they actually think better, are they wiser. Do they think beyond the game itself. Do they see people as a commidity to be exploited for further self interest.
    • We should ask when looking at the ultra rich how do they contribute positively to society on a large scale besides ownership of businesses which make money. For all their wealth do they make a positive or negative impact on society besides PR, which is at the end of the day pure manipulation

And if it does the amount is negligible. Then I watch another video of a more right-leaning guy who has his head around history and reads a lot saying that immigration causes wages to fall. It is so hard to disseminate the truth. Both speakers were intelligent, and knowledgable and aren’t like many of the speakers on the internet that push agendas and in doing so create false narratives to back up their agendas. I have recently been humbled because I have gotten more perspective on how limited my knowledge is and how I make certain assumptions that now seem flawed. I get it now when they say we are living in a post-truth era and it goes beyond one side lying and the other telling the truth.
    • One of the problems I have with the lefts critic of the right on youtube is that they use humour as a vehicle for their narratives. This may attract a certain veiwer but would keep away people on the right who have no sense of humour from watching and learning the truth about the false narratives of the right side of politics.
    • Comedian above all people can spot and deconstruct bullshit. But using their comedic chops to unpack all their messages makes light of the serious nature of some of these topics. This is not to say humour doesn't have it's place, only that people who could learn most from the message would be unaware of the irony it is wrapped in.

    • I like that in a capitalist society you can throw ideas out there that can be generative through profit. It is somewhat meritocratic. Except for the part where wealth is only allocated through that system meaning those with existing connections and capital are the gate keepers to many of the people who have the engenuity to create something generative.
    • I have not read Carl Marx, but I mean to. I have feared ingesting it that I may fall prey to some spell cast on me by the book. I don't believe in communism. I believe in mixed economies, everything else is just extremism. Atleast until we have adequate algorithms around appropriate reward. To me the communist system would be like how community services is now. Less about results and more about the perception of result and covering your own back. Where winners are decided by King Makers and not the results of your input, where politics rules over doing the right thing, or the smart thing. I believe in economic transition where certain aspects of the free market be put in public hands because it will function better that way for society, because what do the shareholder really offer. They offerthe squeezing out of profits at all expenses including externalities and creating a private face where gread and malice rule, and a friendly public face for society to reflect on and be encouraged by. It's a big old lie, a fraud to make those who have capital richer without expending energy on contribution past the direction of their own self-interest.
    • The amount of money one human can make should be capped and fund boddies run by people who would be entrepreneur can allocate capital on behalf of the bodies

A belief in God doesn't automatically imply that the Bible is the word of God or that Jesus is his Son. While it is still incalulable whether this is true. You could say that if God was true, the odds of the bible being true are far less. You need God to make the Bible treue or Jesus the true son of God. But it doesn't work the other way. It makes less odds that the bible is true because it's logic doesn't hold up to what we know through the last five hundred years of development. This does not mean we know the bible is not the word of God. But it make the odds of that fact even more unlikely. You can say that God doesn't exist because theirs no definitive proof of it. but the only proof he doesn't exist is that their is no definative proof. Which leaves open for narratives as to why that is beyond because their isn't one. But the odds that God is the God in the Old Testiment is less likely but still possible. It is less likely because God has less than great human characteristics which would make him a very flawed individual which is less than likely. I'm talking about negative characteristics like brutality, anger and jealousy. And he is stated to be all knowing yet he is suprised by the Jews behaviours, and punishes them harshly. He comes across as a narcistic tyrant on one level and an all caring loving, omnipotent being on the other. He doesn't come acroos as overly wise, which is what you'd expect from the people at the time of the old testimets inseption. Some people would see this writing as a slight against God. But I see God as someone who would know me better than I know my self, and knows my heart. So I trust his wisdom because my assumption is that he'd be correct. Unlike the version of God written into the Bible.
    • The best ministers are the ones that have come to Jesus, but still failed and hit rock bottom. Those ministers if they stay with Jesus as truth develop powerful and useful ways of thinking that is not available to those who have been in the church and not failed in a way where they had to rebuild their framework while staying faithful. They are more honest and articulate and incorporate some of what we have learned in the last fivehundred years into their interpretation of the bible.

And sometimes things happen which make us believe there must be some magic in the air, and that can provide us with hope and comfort. But as we grow and learn those who use a more reality based framework for their thinking are at an advantage as long as their frame of refrence is not to bleak or stale or oversanitised or inhuman. All these tints on our reality make us less than our full capacity. The extremes on the other end regarding thinking which is otherworldly mostly obsures our reality and while providing us with comfort also hold us back from reaching our potential. While in this state we can see things as more and greater including ourselves it distracts from what is really going on around us and in our head, leading us to make less than optimal choices for ourselves, our family and others.

You can go down many false rabbit holes and be engrossed by them, they can become your manifesto. But if you look upon everything with doubt, you will find nuggets of information that will lead you to other nuggets, and sooner or later, ‘if’ you don’t finish at what feels good, or suits your existing beliefs, you will find a kind of truth that is as real a representation of the world you could hope for.

But the people beholden to that ignorance are bolstered by a wealthy class of people who mainain false truths simply in order to protect their own interests. Because what they have focused on is external to themselves and not information regarding their nature or even practical information about life skills or communication or practised social skills.
    • Ben Shapiro is a classic case of a Smart Dumb person. There is no doubt that Ben is an intelligent man. But his reasoning is all narrative, he has his conclusions based on religious texts and the narratives of the tribe and he is adept at creating narrative that defend these beliefs that seem logical on the surface, but his mind is not a critical and reflective one. These skills were never developed as he probably grew up in an environment were the truths were set and imutable. This means his reasoning skills and meta-cognition wasn't fully developed. He didn't learn how to think for himself. Instead he learned to take his existing imutible beliefs and create the best arguments for those beliefs. Because he didn't develop a reflective way of think where he bassed his conclusions on all the information available to him. He never became self-aware. This is why he can say things that have caused real problems in the real world without him being able to reflect and grow. His confidence is based on his ability to create compelling narratives, but when those narrative have detrimental effects in the real world he is not capable of understanding that he had a part in those negative outcomes, instead rather than admitting fault and growing, he creates new narrative that deflect and boulster his own statements.
    • There is plenty of people with less than average intelligence with their shit together. The problem with having less than average intelligence and not having your shit together, is that you're less likely to try and learn how to get your shit together. Because the obsticles a bit higher you don't try to clear it.

Being unable to accept others values and beliefs is rooted in the persons own ideological position. Putting there own beliefs above human connection, acceptence and the grace of letting people have their own autonomy. Even in the case where someone is clearly lacking  insight or personal knowledge that helps them to flourish, where it is a lot easier to posture that your belifs and values are more useful to living a good life and being a good individual, you will not change them, you can only model a better way through your words and action. You can nudge, but forcing them into a box they don't feel they belong in no matter how strategic or subtle, or manipulative. You will only drive the individual further away, abd if you haven't it is because you have taken their will.
    • The right are more driven by fear. Their amigdala has more say over what they believe. This part of the brain does not work on reason but reflex, it is our lzard brain. Always looking for danger in the simplest of terms.

You can argue that they provide capital for new enterprise. But that money wherever it is kept can provide be money for new enterprise. You could argue that them having won in the market are better at picking other winning, but could they not be utilised to pick winners without those resources actually being allocated to them. To spend money on things that may be self serving or not in the interest of society. People with massive wealth don't think like us. But do they actually think better, are they wiser. Do they think beyond the game itself. Do they see people as a commidity to be exploited for further self interest.
    • I wouldn't be so hard on stupid people if they started voting in their own interests instead of those who fool them.
    • Capitalism has the big advantage of being put into math through economics. What a great thing. I am ignorant of economics but I imagine that it is based on first principles that are no more nuanced than maximising profit, and successful exploitation of groups to benefit other groups. They can also make fair rational descition when they exclude their own reward from the equation, when they are impartial, and think in a universal ot tribal way. Humans will maximise value for themselves and their tribe if they are tribal and the baseline for the tribe is to do so.

    • Back in the day MIT predicted that society would collapse around the year twenty forty. The argument against this is that when humanity has it's back against the wall we will work together to solve the issues which will be our demise. But so far humanity has been like a frog in a pot of water that is slowly coming to the boil.
    • Part of what has helped me find some peace at times over the last few years is the practising of trust in two aligning beliefs. One is that humanity if push comes to shove is capable of heading in a direction that will not lead to our own demise. And two that there are forces in the universe that ensure things are happening in a way that they should. Both of these are wishful thinking and so are not based securely on some knowledge I have of either how humanity will act given the right stimuli or that of knowledge of the universe having some rhyme and reason. Despite this, there are some aspects of my thinking that allow me to hold onto these beliefs. Firstly the fact is that in times of war and disaster humans can come together and work on something larger than personal gain, status and personal recognition, or material comfort. I can align myself with the second belief, that things are not random and just based on luck because of some fuzzy thinking that randomness is not even random, probability dictates outcomes at scale and that I have experienced a certain amount of synchronicity at play in my life, as in occurrences that are hard to put down to coincidence alone. This leads me to believe there is more than just a material reality or that the material has a purpose or will or perhaps some pre-ordained outcome. My agnostic beliefs give me the ability to hold these ideas as a way of comforting and directing me. Because we don't really know what is true, we are best aligned with the beliefs that support our flourishing and the flourishing of others, and that is why I lean on these two axioms, so as to be without distress while I do my best to help as much as I can without being hobbled by hopelessness and purposelessness. Recently I have had moments of hopelessness through trying to figure out the best ways forward for humanity but coming up short. This piece of writing is a reminder to myself to just have trust and hope and that while I may be powerless to do anything about the direction of things, it does not mean that we are powerless or that I should not trust that things will work out or have at least an acceptance of however they do work out. 
    • People spin alls sorts of narratives to justify their feelings or their actions. Society  would be a lot better place if people stopped we've self-serving stories and focused on the highest good.
    • All humans default state of thinking is narative thinking and tribalism, but is narrative thinking and tribalism optimal for survival beyond addehesion to a tribe and tribal dominance. Or how is tribalism optimal for humanity as a whole. And can we escape narrative thinking and tribalism, is it possible.
    • I've coined the term narrative thinking to describe what humans do as groups who compete for resourses. Narrative thinking is creating stories that benefit the tribe and us as individuals and help us explain the world around us. The more powerful and useful the narrrative, the more it gets built upon.

    • Some people can be intelligent and have no ethics whatsoever. The two don't necessarily correlate. Some people can be extremely intelligent, but their values and what they believe are true are poorly correlated with reality and the systems we inhabit. This is because they are excellent at creating narratives that confirm their existing beliefs and affirm how they see themselves. They are storytellers who pass on those stories to others and are always weaving reality with fiction in such a way that is believable. These people are dangerous and create a huge amount of problems for a well-functioning society.
    • There is many an average joe who excel at the basics of life and are able to navigate their life successfuly without having a mind for educating themselves on the bigger picture aspects of life and society. These people are able to give you solid advice about how to get by and flourish in their world. But because they are human, more complex issues regarding life and society are still processed and conclusions are made that they think they are right about and understand and create opinions on those topics. They suffer from the dunning kruger affect where they know so little about what they are thinking or talking about they think their is nothing more to it than what is in their head and therefore come up with simplified black and white interpretations and opinions on these issues and feilds of human understanding. While people who study might know certain feilds in high resolution and detail and have a clearer understanding of the issues, they might not have the practical everyday knowledge and skills the average joe has. This leads the average joe who has his shit together and lives a good life that these intellectual people, these smart people are dumb and theyre beliefs and ideas and solutions to larger issues are in fact correct and the intellectual is wrong.
    • Holidays are a waste of resources which should be a once in a lifetime thing, use zoom jerks

    • Imagine if your grades at school were in the bottom 25% of everyone in your year at school. Then imagine growing up to know better than the top scientists in their field. Now imagine there are lots of people, say 10% of the population who perform poorly when tested but still are able to correct and refute the top minds who study these topics their whole adult lives. Now imagine if that 10% of people shut their stupid faces and got on with their lives. Would society be better for it? Most definitely!

A belief in God doesn't automatically imply that the Bible is the word of God or that Jesus is his Son. While it is still incalulable whether this is true. You could say that if God was true, the odds of the bible being true are far less. You need God to make the Bible treue or Jesus the true son of God. But it doesn't work the other way. It makes less odds that the bible is true because it's logic doesn't hold up to what we know through the last five hundred years of development. This does not mean we know the bible is not the word of God. But it make the odds of that fact even more unlikely. You can say that God doesn't exist because theirs no definitive proof of it. but the only proof he doesn't exist is that their is no definative proof. Which leaves open for narratives as to why that is beyond because their isn't one. But the odds that God is the God in the Old Testiment is less likely but still possible. It is less likely because God has less than great human characteristics which would make him a very flawed individual which is less than likely. I'm talking about negative characteristics like brutality, anger and jealousy. And he is stated to be all knowing yet he is suprised by the Jews behaviours, and punishes them harshly. He comes across as a narcistic tyrant on one level and an all caring loving, omnipotent being on the other. He doesn't come acroos as overly wise, which is what you'd expect from the people at the time of the old testimets inseption. Some people would see this writing as a slight against God. But I see God as someone who would know me better than I know my self, and knows my heart. So I trust his wisdom because my assumption is that he'd be correct. Unlike the version of God written into the Bible.
    • People who go into polotics from the church are not rational players, they are dogmatic and don't serve the wishes of the populos, let alone the church. They are moved by the agenda of the elite and are incapable of compromise on issues society has mostly moved n from. The reason these are the issues is that so not progress is made on the social front. Theirefore serving the interests of the elite. It is not a structure born out of enlightened thought, societal improvement or vision. Rather it is top down. They think they serve God but what they really serve is the interests of the elite who use Christian wedge issues as a tool to keep the Christians manipulated.
    • The Christians as a group have been manipulated politically since the seventies and because the teachings of the church do not manifest chritical thinking they have fallen for these tricks every step of the way. Now the Christians, once the proper and honest are now the nut jobs trying to derail democracy on behalf of the rich capitalists which created the conditions for their discontent.     • I think their should be two types of schools. and the child or parent chooses which one they attend. One should be about grading students and pushing them to do well academically. The other should have minimal grading and no ranking system and should be about encouraging the childs strenths. That way the achievers can achieve, and those who aren't interested in academic achievement can grow their own way at their own pace, without the slight on their esteem of grading and ranking of performance.

    • Schooling at the present is about preparing children for the workforce in many ways. They come from a place of knowing, they have their beliefs which are inconscrutable and base all logical reasoning on affirming those beliefs.
    • The right reason from a place of feeling, if they feel you are evil they will create a narrative that confirms that belief and exclude and twist all data that refutes it
    • The right don't actually base their beliefs on fact but tribal allegiance, they wish their beliefs to align with the tribe.
    • The right when figuring out a problem start with a conclusion and then use narrative thinking to cement that conclusion as true.
    • The brains of people on the right aren't adept at logical reasoning, especially when it comes to thinking about social structures. They are not capable of coming to correct conclusion on their own accord because of how they reason and how their brain is structured.
    • The right are constantly at war in protecting the tribe and their tribal mindset, this is why they can't be relied on for honest intellectual conclusions based on our best truths. The right are incapable of not knowing the right answer, it causes them emotional distress. This is why they create stories in their mind t justify the conclusions their feeling brains have made up to make them feel safe and connected. They tell themselves stories and sdo not question the validity of those stories even when confronted with superior, more logical insight about the nature of things, and when things arent clear, when conclusions are fuzzy they create solid conclusions as if everything was simple and black and white. They are inferior thinker and therefor not as creative as people who are more open. But they are hard working and dilligent, even if what they are working for is a net negative to society. this is their power.
    • I like a good sermon about being at war with the non-christian world. But some of these non-Christians think they have the right to question our truth. Christian need governmental protection so we can keep waging war on the non-christian world. They should live by our rules. Christians need to vote for Christians. Not policies which are good for a happy harmonious society.

    • One of the problems I have with the lefts critic of the right on youtube is that they use humour as a vehicle for their narratives. This may attract a certain veiwer but would keep away people on the right who have no sense of humour from watching and learning the truth about the false narratives of the right side of politics.
    • Comedian above all people can spot and deconstruct bullshit. But using their comedic chops to unpack all their messages makes light of the serious nature of some of these topics. This is not to say humour doesn't have it's place, only that people who could learn most from the message would be unaware of the irony it is wrapped in.

    • I once was in a meeting with a primary school principal and he said of three year-three Aboriginal school girls that they were lost causes and my son should steer clear of them. Unreachable by year three. That’s a harsh statement.

But it’s important to remember that they might not have any positive role models outside of school, and you never know what small acts can do to a kid on their journey to adulthood. What direction does your presence push them towards, and how are you helping in the creation of their self-image. These people are able to give you solid advice about how to get by and flourish in their world. But because they are human, more complex issues regarding life and society are still processed and conclusions are made that they think they are right about and understand and create opinions on those topics. They suffer from the dunning kruger affect where they know so little about what they are thinking or talking about they think their is nothing more to it than what is in their head and therefore come up with simplified black and white interpretations and opinions on these issues and feilds of human understanding. While people who study might know certain feilds in high resolution and detail and have a clearer understanding of the issues, they might not have the practical everyday knowledge and skills the average joe has. This leads the average joe who has his shit together and lives a good life that these intellectual people, these smart people are dumb and theyre beliefs and ideas and solutions to larger issues are in fact correct and the intellectual is wrong.
    • If we were to be serious about solving the worlds problems, we'd get the greatest minds together with the express intentent on working from first principles and not based on any all or all interests of the haves of the world. And that is why we don't. Because the haves are more than happy to help save humanity, as long as they get to keep a disproportionate chunk of that future and the power that comes with it.

• Preamble
  • I’ve been writing now for a couple of weeks and have churned out around 10,000 words. But it seems that I’ve hit a wall with things to voice my opinion on.
  • The 10,000 words were on how to make the world a better place, addressing the problems we face. But I have a big problem. It’s all theory and probably doesn’t map over the human conditions and what society needs to function. But it has been a good exercise because it has helped me realise that despite the time I’ve put into thinking about these issues, I’m fairly ignorant about what works and what doesn’t, and what negative values we as societies have to accept to have a functional system. It seems my solutions may be nothing more than wishful thinking. I think about the logic of Marx and how it changed how entire societies function but was ultimately a failure.
  • Despite constantly being drawn to thinking about how society should function, I have been unable to write my opinions having been in a state of believing I would write a book about my thinking and explain my views. One of the driving factors, why I haven’t written up until now, was the feeling that it was not my place to write about it according to the powers that be and the paranoid belief that if I did write about it I would put myself in danger.
  • I feel somewhat less worried about that now that I have written. The benefit of not writing until now is that it has given me a chance to iron out some of my more extreme views through the acquisition of new knowledge. The disadvantage of leaving it so long is that I am now a lot clearer about how much I don’t understand and my own ineptitude on such issues and also the ineptitude of people who claim to have the right answers. This has given me a chance to hone in on the things I need to better understand, as well as put my grand ideas and the lack of complexity they are bolstered by into perspective.

Without writing and verbal communication, you cannot deconstruct what you think beyond reflection, which narrows the band of complex ideas.

It is not a fight between good and evil. It is fight against doing our best for society with the truth, or supporting lies created by those who wish to take unfair advantage and protect their interest.
