Every year thousands of young men who have been disillusioned by the education system due to poor scholastic performance and lack of positive reinforcement turn to Boganism as a way of life, shunning good morals and the pursuit of personal growth and pro-social behaviours for more anti-social pursuits revolving around pleasure seeking and maladaptive coping strategies such as deviancy, including drugs, alcohol, an interest in cars, extreme sports and reckless behaviour. But the tide is turning for many young men who see no future in being a drop-kick and are aware of the problems associated with not dealing with their issues. They’ve turned their attention away from other dropkicks and lowlifes with the understanding that most of these people don’t want to see them flourish and are actively holding them back from improving their circumstances and dealing with their problems. One young man said, “As a Bogan, I used to turn to other bogans for guidance, but that was stupid and only made things worse because while they talk like they know, they can’t get their shit together so how are they able to tell me how to get my shit together.” They are instead choosing to tear off their bogan badges and try to improve themselves by listening to and associating with people who aren’t low-level scum bags.
