HowRUDay a total success for organisers
Following the success of RUOK day. A feeling among many locals was that individuals took R U OK day as a chance to talk about their issues. Which is exactly what the day was for, to encourage people to talk and seek help.
The problem which many faced was the day created a platform for many to speak openly about their problems, which was the reason for it.
But many of the colleges of these people felt that this set a precedent for struggling individuals to download all their shit onto other less receptive workmates on a regular and recurring basis.
Where the individual, rather than seeking solutions to their problems, used the exercise in such a way that opened the floodgates to constant complaining about their issues without taking the time to implement resolutions. This created a less friendly and even, in some cases toxic work environment for many.
This was until one worker fed up with the constant whingeing of a college, that he had happened to ask months early on the allocated day for such things whether this particular worker was doing ok.
His solution was quite brilliant. The creation of How R U day, the day after R U OK day. Its purpose was to practice civility without getting too deep into other people’s bullshit.
The next year rolled around and with the help of an avid group of supporters, How R U day was born and has gone from strength to strength ever since.
The creator of How R U day was quoted as saying. "It gave me a chance to tell other employees in a polite manner that I was here to work and I wasn’t interested in listening to all the unresolved complaining around the office."
Then he pointed out that the main offender, his workmate Gary, just says G’day to him these days, then just leaves him the fuck alone to get on with his work.
If you’d like to implement How R U day? on the 24th of August register at https://www.howruday.com.au/getbacktowork
